I view photography as a way to focus on
closely observing my favorite places and
especially my favorite light - before
sunrise, at twilight and sunset, and after
dark when the moon and stars are out.

My photographs have won numerous
awards, including the Eisner Prize, the top
prize for the arts at the University of
California at Berkeley, for two
consecutive years in 1991 and 1992.  I
have also won photography awards in
national magazines, and my images have
been published in
Islands, Hemispheres,
Outdoor & Travel Photography, and the
South China Morning Post.  My images
are shot on 35mm transparency film, or
more recently using a digital SLR, and are
displayed “as shot”.  I use Photoshop to
match the final print to the scene as I
observed it, but not to manipulate color or
content.

In addition to lugging my tripod around
the Eastern Sierra, I have worked for a
wireless information company, as an
advisor to the Chinese government,as a
campaign consultant for the Vice
President of Taiwan, as an environmental
consultant, as a fast-food chef, a
database programmer, a painter, and a
paperboy.
