In his classic photography book Mountain Light, Galen Rowell explains how at higher altitudes after sunset, the sky can separate into distinct bands of color. The top pink/red band, the "twilight wedge", is formed when direct sunlight filters through to hit the upper atmosphere. Below it is the blue earth shadow formed as the sun dips below the horizon. I saw a bright pink twilight wedge one night when perched atop a rock photographing the Rainbow Bridge after sunset in January 2022. The reflection turned Donner Lake bright pink.
